Transforming Global Information and Communication Markets: The Political Economy of Innovation

by Peter F. Cowhey and Jonathan D. Aronson
The MIT Press, $34

Innovation in information and communication technology fuels the growth of the global economy, but how these markets evolve depends on politics and policy. Jonathan D. Aronson, professor at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and the USC School of International Relations, and his co-author examine their subject from a political perspective, arguing that continued rapid innovation and economic growth require new approaches in global governance - approaches that will reconcile many different interests and enable competition to flourish. They discuss this turning point in both theoretical and practical terms, analyzing changes in communication markets, examining three case studies and considering principles for future global policies.
