Although humans have a long history of using bamboo as a building material, this abundant natural resource is rarely used in construction today. But promoting the benefits of this material could provide a solution to the move toward sustainability and green practices in the construction industry. In this book, Yan Xiao, associate professor at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering, and his co-editors have compiled numerous studies presented at the First International Conference on Modern Bamboo Structures in 2007, which include the latest research on the material and analyses of its design possibilities and potential applications in modern construction.
