On March 10, USC President Steven B. Sample led a delegation of trustees and senior administrators for the university’s annual visit to Washington, D.C.

The group thanked federal officials for their support of science and education priorities in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and updated them on the acquisition of the USC University Hospital and USC Norris Cancer Hospital.

Sample was joined by trustees Edward Roski Jr., Frank Cruz, Lydia Kennard, Bruce Ramer and Jeffrey Smulyan; senior vice presidents Martha Harris and Todd Dickey; vice president Thomas Sayles; and senior associate vice president Kristen Soares.

Members of the USC delegation met with representatives Howard Berman (D-Calif.), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.), Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Peter Visclosky (D-Ind.) and Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. They also met with congressional staff members from the offices of Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky).

USC also hosted a Capitol Hill reception that drew more than 200 attendees, including California representatives Xavier Becerra, John Campbell, David Dreier, Jane Harman, Grace Napolitano, Brad Sherman and Diane Watson; Air Force Secretary Michael Donley; former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Christopher Cox; and Los Angeles Councilwoman Wendy Greuel.
