Donald Paul Attends Energy Briefing
December 4, 2008 11:13 AM
Donald Paul, senior adviser to the provost on energy and technology, attended a briefing by the International Energy Agency on the "World Energy Outlook 2008" report at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 24.
The energy agency’s report included key energy supply and demand trends to 2030. The agency conducted a field-by-field analysis of production trends at 800 of the world’s largest oilfields, assessing the potential for finding and developing new reserves.
According to Paul, who is also a senior adviser at the bipartisan, nonprofit center, “The key theme of the 'World Energy Outlook 2008' report is that, in spite of the recent sharp decline in oil demand and prices due to the global economic slowdown, the long-term trends clearly point to increased stress on global supplies for oil and fuel feedstocks.
“Increased efficiency in use, expanded oil exploration and development, and significant diversification of supplies will be needed to meet growing world demand in the decades ahead.”
